BRATTLEBORO — Police say a bomb threat was made during a bank robbery.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Brattleboro Police Department officers were called to People's United Bank at 100 Main Street for a reported robbery.

"Responding officers learned that during the course of the robbery the suspect threatened to detonate a bomb inside the building," said Brattleboro Police Captain Mark Carignan in a press release. "The subject left a suspicious item inside the bank after robbing it of an undisclosed amount of money."

According to the press release, police secured and contained the scene. The area was evacuated. The Vermont State Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team was requested and will be responding to assist.

Police said no injuries were reported at the time of publication. Citizens are being asked to avoid the area.

A People's United Bank in Wilmington was robbed earlier in the day. No connection has been made by officials.
