BRATTLEBORO >> As part of the town's ongoing efforts to engage the community in discussions related to the new police and fire facilities, Police Chief Michael Fitzgerald and Fire Chief Michael Bucossi invite all members of the public to come to their respective facilities for a tour.
Tours will be offered every Tuesday evening during the month of January from 5 to 6 p.m. Visitors are also invited to attend Selectboard meetings immediately following the tours in order to ask questions and discuss the potential options available for these facilities.
Tours of each of the facilities will not take the entire hour. The public is invited to tour as much or as little as they would like and to ask questions of the chiefs. Staff will be available for tours for the entire hour. No appointment is necessary.
The Brattleboro Police Department is located in the Municipal Building at 230 Main Street. The Brattleboro Fire Department Central Station is located at 103 Elliot Street and Station II is located at 16 South Street in West Brattleboro.
Brattleboro has wrestled with how best to renovate the town's aging police and fire stations for a number of years. Recently, the Selectboard announced it had submitted an agreement with the owners of the Brattleboro Reformer to purchase the building on Black Mountain Road for a $1-million police station project. Under the current plan, the fire stations would also be renovated, but no new building is to be built.
