The family of Barry Gerdes would like to thank all the people that came to the house as soon as the tone went out and the outpouring of help from the EMS’s and Ambulance Service getting Barry to the hospital. We would also like to thank the doctors and nurses at Baystate Greenfield for their loving care for Barry and Laura and the family during this difficult time.

Also many many thanks to Dan and Tammy Hollister and Mike Grikstas, Jr. for making sure that the Searsburg students got to school every day and thanks to Lewis Sumner for filling in and getting the Halifax Students to school and to Marylee Putnam for many extra deeds while we were in the hospital. It made it easier for us knowing that we didn’t have to worry about the students getting to school. Thank you!

The family was most overwhelmed by all the loving support that we received, that came to the hospital to see the family, all the telephone calls, and all of those that came to our house loaded with food. We thank you for coming to the visiting hours and the funeral. We were so amazed by all the love, all of us felt and the happy memories from lots of our former students, it was heartwarming.

A big thank you to Mark Shea for making the arrangements for the funeral so much easier and to Doug Laplant and Marylou for being by our side and giving all of us comfort and support with their kind and helpful words. A thank you to Mark Monroe for being a part of the funeral service, we appreciate your kind words and support.

We really don’t know the right words to express at this time, but we want all of you to know that you are all very much loved and thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts.

On behalf of the Hinsdale Community Coalition, we want to say a very heartfelt thank you to Shippee Auto, Pizza Down Under, A-1 Pizza of Hinsdale, the Abbey Group, Sports Source, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Target and the Hinsdale Lion’s Club and for their support of our ninth annual Chili Cook-off on Saturday, March 30. Because of your support we were able to reach youth and community members (over 150 people attended) and work towards achieving our goal to help parents and community members come together as a community to prevent alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse. As a result of your partnership and support of our coalition, we are seeing positive results in our community. We appreciate your generosity and for caring about the future of the youth in our town and the parents, family members and community members who are guiding them.

Congratulations to first place winner Steve Hamel, second place winner Holly Kennedy and third place winner Greg Shippee and to The Police Department (Mike Bomba) who won over the Fire Department and to the School Board (Holly Kennedy) who won over the Town Selectboard. Special thanks also to Skylar Bonnette for her assistance in the organization of this event.
