A Jeffersonian Democrat, not a socialist

Editor of the Reformer:

Our elected leaders spent America's first two centuries expanding opportunity for "we, the people." They created this democracy, freed the slaves, gave women the right to vote, desegregated our schools, and expanded public education.

More recently, however, many of our leaders have concentrated on putting their political power and the interests of their wealthy friends ahead of the interests of "we, the people." Do we have a "rigged economy," a corrupt campaign finance system, crushing student debt and a crisis in health care? Virtually everyone knows that we do.

Which candidate for president has spent his life fighting for the traditional values on which this country was founded? Which candidate is standing up to power and privilege and not taking a cent of their money? That person is Bernie Sanders. And sorry Bernie, you're no socialist. You are a Jeffersonian Democrat. The founding fathers would be proud of you for leading the new American Revolution so "we, the people" can take our government back."

Mark Twain once said, "In a democracy you get the government you deserve." So join the new American Revolution. Otherwise you'll have no one but yourself to blame.
