Police officers deserve better
Editor of the Reformer:
Brattleboro has an outstanding police force. Their present working conditions are intolerable, to the point where it hurts retention and recruitment of the best officers, and only some of these conditions will be mitigated by improvements at the Municipal Center. The work flow inefficiencies will remain.
Day-to-day policing will not be impacted by moving police headquarters to Black Mountain Road because patrol cars are distributed throughout the town during a shift, and officers do most of their "paperwork" on mobile data terminals (laptops or tablets).
The Municipal Center is a 19th century (1883) building (even with anachronistic extensions into the parking area). The Brattleboro Police Department deserves a more modern work environment that the Black Mountain Road facility will allow.
