The eleventh annual Walk for Amber walkathon, raffle and pasta dinner in support of the Amber Bernier Scholarship fund was held on June 5th. In spite of a little rain we had a group of walkers. We sold about 1,700 raffle tickets. The pasta dinner featured delicious pasta, fresh cut flowers and live acoustic music by Dan Kasnitz and Jeff Brewer, and a special a cappella performance by RENEGADE. Between organizers, donors, ticket sellers, cooks, bakers, supporters and volunteers, hundreds of people helped to make this event a huge success.

The following is a list of area business and individuals that we would like to thank.

Donations for the Walkathon: Trend Business Solutions, Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, Alyssa Rogers Photography, Chris Lenois and FISH at WKVT, Cicely Eastman at Brattleboro Reformer.

Community members gathered for the 18th Annual Memorial Garden Planting Service at the hospice Memorial Garden at Living Memorial Park on June 7th. In spite of being rained out of our scheduled June 5th date, many came to remember loved ones by planting flowers donated by local businesses.

We thank the following area businesses who generously donated flowers for the service: Walker Farm, Newfane Greenhouse and Nursery, Lilac Ridge Farm, Harlow's Farm Stand, and Achille Agway. Thanks also to D&E Tree Service for donating the mulch that volunteers had spread earlier to prepare the garden for the memorial service. We are indebted to Joan Shimer and Gerhard Bedding for accompanying the planting by playing music on their recorders, and to the Hallowell singers who treated us to their special blend of harmony and beautiful singing.

We extend sincere thanks to the many volunteers who groomed the garden in preparation for the service and who assisted with many aspects of the event. Thank you also to Paul Ethier and the Parks Department grounds crew for maintaining the area around the garden space.

The well-established Memorial Garden in all its blooming splendor is available to anyone in the community for visits, enjoyment, reflection, and picnics throughout the growing season. And if you would like to add a planting in memory of a loved one, please call 257-0775 and we will help you with placement.

Sincerely,

Connie Baxter, Bereavement Care Coordinator On behalf of the board and staff of Brattleboro Area Hospice, June 24
