BRATTLEBORO -- The driver of a car that ended up in a small stream near the Austine driveway on Maple Street on June, 24, 2011, has been cited with DUI causing serious injury and grossly negligent operation causing serious injury.

According to a press release from the Brattleboro Police Department, Ashley N. Tyler, 23, of Keyport, N.J., was driving the vehicle at about 2:30 a.m. when it ended up upside down in the stream.

According to Tyler’s Facebook page, she now lives in Vernon.

She and two other occupants in the vehicle were injured, one seriously. Police are not releasing the name of the passenger who was seriously injured, nor the extent of the injuries, but the other two passengers were Kaitlin M. Austin, 22, of Keene, N.H., and Timothy J. Velazquez, 25, of Bellows Falls.

But on his Facebook page, Velazquez admitted to being injured in the accident and posted pictures of the injuries he received.

According to her Facebook page, Austin now lives in Brattleboro.

During the on-scene investigation of the accident, Velazquez became disorderly and interfered with first responders at the scene. He was arrested for impeding a public official and was issued a citation.

Following the accident, police conducted a number of witness and suspect interviews and secured a warrant to search the vehicle. A forensic and DNA analysis was conducted on blood and tissue collected from the vehicle.

Maple Street was closed to traffic for about four hours.

According to police, Tyler is scheduled to appear in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court, Windham, on April 17.
