BRATTLEBORO -- The AARP Driver Safety Program, the nation’s oldest classroom program for experienced drivers, is offering several driver safety classes in Windham County in August.

In appreciation for their service to our learning community, current and retired school personnel may take the class at a reduced cost of $5 during the months of July and August. This offer is extended to all current and former school employees and includes custodians, secretaries, paraprofessionals, teachers, and administrators. The fee for all other participants is $14 and $12 for AARP members.

The course, using lecture, discussion, and video, addresses the changes that occur in vision, hearing, and reaction time as we age. Classes are conducted in a single session that lasts between four to five hours. Content includes coverage of changes in highways, vehicles, and Vermont state law that affect drivers. Emphasis is placed on safe driving practices and strategies. Some insurance companies provide a discount for successful class completion.
