BRATTLEBORO -- Firefighters from the West Brattleboro Fire Station responded to the report of a car fire on Brattle Street just before 3 p.m. on Friday.
According to Lt. John Lawrence, the fire that engulfed a Volkswagen mini-van was most likely caused by a mechanical fault in the engine.
One fire engine and one heavy rescue truck were dispatched to the scene and the fire was under control by 3:10 p.m. Firefighters were back in the station by 4:22 p.m., said Lawrence.
The fire, which occurred near Western Avenue, caused some local traffic delays and slowed traffic down on Interstate 91, as well.
No one was injured as a result of the blaze, said Lawrence. The identification of the driver has not been released at this time.
The vehicle was declared a total loss and was towed from the scene by Rod’s Mobile.
Officers from the Brattleboro Police Department assisted.
