Font ResizeJAMAICA -- One person was killed and another seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on Rt. 30 which forced police to close a section of the road for several hours, Sunday afternoon.
Sara A. Taft, 62, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was the passenger in a 2009 Honda Ridgeline driven by 66-year-old Harvey L. Taft of Jamaica. He was taken by DHART to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center with severe injuries.
The other driver, Raschid N. Joyce, 36, and a 3-year-old passenger in his 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 were transported to Grace Cottage Hospital via ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.
Both vehicles were traveling approximately 50 miles per hour, as per the posted speed limit in that area, when they collided near Ball Mountain Dam along Rt. 30 just outside the village of Jamaica, just after 3:30 p.m.
According to police, Taft was driving southbound on Route 30 and Joyce was headed northbound. As their vehicles approached a slight curve in the road, Taft's car crossed into the northbound lane striking Joyce's truck.
A half-mile section of Rt. 30 was closed for several hours as emergency crews cleared the scene.
More than 30 emergency personnel were on scene including members of the Jamaica, Winhall, Londonderry and South Londonderry fire departments, Rescue, Inc., Londonderry Rescue, Winhall Police Department and the Vermont State Police.
Police say that alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this crash.
The investigation is ongoing police are urging anyone with information related to the crash to contact Sgt. Jeffrey Trudeau at the Brattleboro barracks, 802-254-2382.
