Font ResizeROCKINGHAM -- A Rockingham man was killed in a single-vehicle accident on Interstate-91 Friday evening, which forced the closure of the southbound lanes for several hours.
According to State Police, Thomas Moody, 57, was traveling south in a 1999 Subaru Forester just after 6 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle and went off the road near mile marker 46 in Springfield. The vehicle traveled back onto the road and rolled multiple times. Moody was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected, becoming trapped underneath.
Troopers and bystanders were able to remove him from the vehicle and perform CPR until rescue personnel arrived. He was transported to Springfield Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A passenger in the vehicle, Lee Godden, 34, of Westminster, was also transported to Springfield Hospital with unknown injuries. Godden was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident.
Springfield Fire Department, Ascutney Fire Department, Golden Cross Ambulance, Weathersfield Police, and the Department of Liquor Control responded and assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation. However, according to police, based on preliminary information, "it appears that speed and alcohol were factors."
