Brattleboro

-- A Madison, Conn., man was cited for violating his conditions of release during a traffic stop at 1:48 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27.

According to VSP, its Operations South team conducted a motor vehicle stop on Interstate 91 for a vehicle violation. The troopers learned the vehicle’s operator, Derek Shaw, 43, had previously been arrested in October for first-degree aggravated domestic assault. As a result of that arrest, Shaw was released on court-ordered conditions that he not have any contact with the alleged victim of the assault. Troopers learned the alleged victim was in the vehicle at the time of the stop.

Shaw was ordered to appear in court on Wednesday, Nov. 28.

-- Zoe Reichsman, 20, of Brattleboro, was cited for having consumed alcohol as a minor after police responded to Birge Street for a noise complaint on Wednesday, Nov. 28.

Reichsman was ordered to appear in court at a later date.

-- Three individuals were cited with charges on Washington Street on Thursday, Nov. 29.

Brattleboro Police received a report of a retail theft at the Price Chopper store on Canal Street. A description of a vehicle involved was provided and it was located on South Main Street. The vehicle’s operator did not immediately stop for police before pulling over on Washington Street.

Christopher Lanese, 35, a passenger in the car, was cited for retail theft.

Another passenger, Ramon Soto, 36, was found to have consumed alcohol in violation of his court-ordered conditions of release. Both were ordered to appear in court at a later date to answer to the charges.

The vehicle’s operator, who was not identified by police, was issued a ticket for driving with a suspended license and failing to obey a police officer.

-- A Naugatuck, Conn., man walked away uninjured from a single-vehicle crash near the Exit 2 northbound off-ramp on Saturday, Dec. 1.

According to VSP, Bryan K. Phillips, 21, was attempting to get off Interstate 91 when he was unable to negotiate a sharp curve and the 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier he was operating slid off the off-ramp and rolled over onto its roof.

Icy road conditions contributed to this crash, according to police.

Dummerston

-- Joshua Lake, 17, of Chester, was treated and released from Brattleboro Memorial Hospital following a single-vehicle crash on Tuesday, Nov. 27.

According to Vermont State Police, Lake was traveling east on East West Road and driving down a steep grade into a sharp right curve. Due to black ice on the road, Lake was unable to negotiate the curve, causing him to go off the roadway, hit a sign and then a dirt embankment. As result of the impact, the vehicle’s engine area caught on fire. The vehicle is considered a total loss.

Dummerston Fire, Rescue Inc. and the Dummerston Highway Department also responded to the scene.

-- A Philadelphia, Pa., man was cited for careless and negligent operation of a vehicle and excessive speed on Friday, Nov. 30.

Ronald P. Sinnette, 27, was clocked by Vermont State Police traveling 107 mph in a 65 mph zone.

Marlboro

-- A 21-year-old Marlboro College student contacted VSP to report the larceny of his prescription medication from his student housing unit. He told police the larceny possibly took place during the overnight hours of Tuesday, Nov. 27, and Wednesday, Nov. 28.

Rockingham

-- A Winchester, N.H., man was uninjured in a single-vehicle crash in the northbound lane on Interstate 91 on Thursday, Nov. 29.

According to Vermont State Police, the vehicle driven by Eric Brazeau, 51, struck an embankment and rolled over.

-- Liviu Rusu, 37, of Glens Falls, N.Y., and his passenger were uninjured when he lost control of the 2000 Mitsubishi Montero he was driving and the vehicle went off the right side of the northbound lane of Interstate-91 on Thursday, Nov. 29.

According to Vermont State Police, the vehicle struck a rock ledge, causing moderate front-end damage.

The Rockingham Fire Department also responded to the scene.

Walpole, N.H.

-- Alex Clough, 18, of Walpole, N.H., was cited at 7:50 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28, for receiving stolen property.

Westminster

-- A Bellows Falls Union High School student was cited for violating a Relief from Abuse Order while at school on Friday, Nov. 30.

Kolby Nicholas, 16, of Bellows Falls, was taken into custody at approximately 2:09 p.m. and ordered to appear in court on Monday, Dec. 3.

Whitingham

-- A Readsboro woman was transported to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, where she was treated for minor injuries and released, following a single-vehicle crash on Tuesday, Nov. 27.

Vermont State Police say troopers responded at approximately 6:18 p.m. to a rollover crash on Vermont Route 100 in the area of Corse Road.

According to police, Kathleen Quinn, 40, was traveling south at 40 to 45 mph on VT100 when she lost control of her vehicle after hitting some icy road. Police say Quinn left the west side of the roadway, struck a large tree, struck a small tree which broke off and came down on top of the vehicle before the vehicle came to a rest when it hit a large rock adjacent to a stream that runs parallel to VT100. Quinn had suffered contusions, scratches and general soreness before being transported to SVMC.

Mount Snow Motors removed the vehicle from the scene.

Police urge all drivers to use extreme caution on the road, especially during the wintertime. According to Trooper Mike Sorensen, Quinn likely would have sustained more serious, or even fatal injuries, had she not been wearing her seatbelt.
