BRATTLEBORO -- Petitions for Brattleboro Town and Town School District Officers and Town Meeting Members are now available at the Town Clerk’s office.

Town elections will be Tuesday, March 5, and the Annual Representatives Town Meeting, Saturday, March 23.

Petitions for Town Officers must contain at least 30 valid signatures of registered Brattleboro voters and be filed in the clerk’s office no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 28 in order to have their name placed on the ballot.

Candidates for Town Meeting Member must file a nomination petition with at least 10 valid signatures of voters from the district where the candidate lives. Petitions of new candidates must be filed no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 28. Incumbents for Town Meeting Member must return their Notice of Intent form no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 21, one week sooner than new candidates.

Officers to be elected include: Moderator, lister for three years, Selectboard for three years, two one-year Selectboard seats, First Constable, Second Constable, Trustee of Public Funds, School Director for three years, two one-year School Director seats and one three-year Brattleboro Union High School Director.

Town Meeting Members to be elected include in District 1: 16 members for three years, one member for two years and two members for one year; in District 2, 15 members for three years, two members for two years and five members for one year; and in District 3, 15 members for three years, three members for two years and one member for one year.

The 2013 Annual Town and Town School District Meeting Election Calendar is as follows:

-- Monday, Jan, 21: Last day (5 p.m.) for Town Meeting Members who are candidates for re-election to give written notice to the Town Clerk.

-- Thursday, Jan. 24: Last day (5 p.m.) to file petition requesting that an article be placed on the Warning for Annual Town and Town School District Meeting (40 days preceding election). Approximately 480, or 5 percent, signatures of registered Brattleboro voters required.

-- Thursday, Jan. 24: First day to post Warning for Annual Town and Town School District.

-- Monday, Jan. 28: Last day (5 p.m.) to file petition for Town and Town School District Officers.

-- Monday, Jan. 28: Last day (5 p.m.) to file petition to be a candidate for Town Meeting Member.

-- Sunday, Feb. 3: Last day to post Warning for Town and Town School District Meeting.

-- Wednesday, Feb. 6: Last day (5 p.m.) to register to vote in the BUHS Annual Meeting.

-- Tuesday, Feb. 12: BUHS Annual Meeting.

-- Wednesday, Feb. 13: Early/Absentee ballots available.

-- Saturday, Feb. 23: Last day to post sample ballots and voter

information.

-- Wednesday, Feb. 27: Last day (5 p.m.) to register to vote for Town and Town School District.

-- Monday, March 4: Voters may request absentee ballots until 5 p.m.

-- Tuesday, March 5: Town and Town School District Elections.

-- Friday, March 15: Last day (5 p.m.) for a candidate for local office to file request for recount.

-- Saturday, March 23: Annual Representative Town and Town School District Meeting.

-- Friday, March 29: Last day (5p.m.) for petition to be filed with Selectbord requesting question voted at Representative Town Meeting be submitted to voters of the Town at large. Requires signatures of 250 voters or 50 Town Meeting Members.
