BRATTLEBORO -- Authorities do not believe there is any connection between a recent string of burglaries in different parts of Windham County.
Trooper Jeff Hudon, of the Vermont State Police, told the Reformer stolen televisions were the only thing in common between two unsolved cases of burglary he has responded to, but said he had no reason to believe they were in any way related.
The first of his cases occurred on Corse Road in Whitingham between Tuesday, Jan. 15, and Friday, Feb. 8, while the second one took place between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 3 on Stickney Brook Road in Dummerston.
Hudon said he has taken numerous photographs at the Whitingham residence and has learned the perpetrator(s) forced entry into the home and stole a TV. He said they also got into the crawlspace in the basement and took "a pretty good chunk" of copper piping that they cut. The trooper said only a large, flat-screen TV was taken from the Dummerston residence.
He said both cases are under investigation and anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact the Vermont State Police at 802-254-2382.
In other cases under investigation, Mark A. Lovergine, 54, of Townshend, was cited for burglary and unlawful mischief on Tuesday, Feb. 5., after allegedly entering his wife's garage in Londonderry and smashing the windshield of her vehicle. He was taken into custody without incident and ordered to appear in court at a later date to answer to the charges.
Raymond Norton, 30, of Barre, is wanted by Brattleboro Police who are investigating a burglary of a residence on South Main Street on Tuesday, Feb. 5.
Hudon said residents can prevent break-ins and burglaries by keeping their doors locked and having their shades drawn so no one can see into the home. He also said surveillance and alarm systems are helpful if residents can afford them.
Lt. Paul Favreau also noted that burglaries can happen at any time, day or night, throughout the year.
