BRATTLEBORO -- The 104th Fighter Wing of the Massachusetts Air National Guard, stationed in Westfield, Mass., will be conducting training in some regions of southern Vermont and New Hampshire in preparation for an upcoming inspection.
The practice scrambles with intercept missions -- called Fertile Keynotes -- involve 104th Fighter Wing F-15s finding and escorting non-military aircraft (typically Civil Air Patrol Cessnas) to a regional airport simulating real-world procedures.
The training is scheduled for Wednesday, March 20, during daytime hours. These exercises are carefully planned, closely controlled and include exercising airspace restriction violations, hijackings and responding to unknown aircraft.
The following communities may experience increased aircraft activity during this exercise: In Vermont, Rutland, Wells, Granville, Bennington, Morse State Airport, Hoosick Falls, Mount Snow, West Dover, Manchester, Dorset, and Pawlet; as well as Keene and Claremont, N.H.
