BRATTLEBORO -- Organizers of the town’s free family July 4 celebration will decide Friday morning whether to hold their annual WTSA radiothon as scheduled May 10 or postpone it a week because of rain.
The "By the People: Brattleboro Goes Fourth" citizens committee has invited area individuals, businesses and organizations to offer donations Friday from noon to 3 p.m. outside the River Garden on Main Street.
WTSA-FM will announce by 8 a.m. whether the fundraiser will go on or be postponed to next Friday, May 17.
The all-volunteer organizing committee is planning the town’s 40th anniversary Independence Day celebration for Thursday, July 4. It is set to feature a morning parade downtown and afternoon and evening program of free activities, concerts and fireworks at Living Memorial Park.
Organizers, reporting that initial donations are down from past years, hope to spur more community contributions to pay for local bands, pyrotechnics and appropriate liability insurance and security. People can mail donations to "By the People: Brattleboro Goes Fourth," P.O. Box 1112, Brattleboro, VT 05302.
