WILMINGTON -- The Pettee Memorial Library Trustees authorized Town Manager Scott Murphy to move forward on putting a roof replacement out to bid.
"Hopefully that will be out in the next week or so," said Trustee Louis Clark.
He said the library trustees received two reviews of the roof. Both ended up with recommendations for replacing the entire roof instead of sections.
Wilmington Selectboard Chairwoman Meg Streeter told the library trustees that they should not wait for a grant from the Vermont Division of Historic Preservation Offices, a possibility that had been discussed at previous meetings.
She said that the entire pool of money from the state is $150,000 and the trustees wouldn't know if their project would definitely be selected. If the library trustees wanted to wait to see if the roof repairs would be accepted for the grant, they could only put the work out to bid. No work could be done then until next summer or building season, Streeter said.
"I don't think it's worthwhile waiting," said Clark.
Streeter told the library trustees that she would help Murphy with the request for proposal process. She said that typically, accepting bids is a three-week process.
The color of the roof was brought up in discussion. It was agreed that the library trustees should be open to different colors because if a supplier has more of one color in stock, there may be a bigger inclination towards selling it cheaper.
-- The Pettee Library Trustees also spoke about the library still needing a new librarian.
-- The Summer Reading Program Kick Off Party is going to be held on June 17. There will be two star labs, where a small group of people can enter at a time to see simulated constellations appear on the walls.
-- As part of the Vermont Digital Economy Project grant, which Wilmington has been accepted for several services, interns can be sent to the library to help patrons with browsing the Internet or updating their resumes. The library trustees agreed this may be a good service.
