Chase suspect eludes police
HINSDALE, N.H. -- A person who led police on a vehicle chase through Brattleboro and into Hinsdale eluded capture on Wednesday afternoon.
According to a press release from the Hinsdale Police Department, at about noon, the Brattleboro Police Department attempted to stop the driver of a stolen vehicle, who sped away, crossing the Connecticut River into Hinsdale.
The driver eventually abandoned the vehicle on Monument Road and fled on foot. Though extra officers were called in to set up a perimeter and a K-9 was called in, the suspect was not found. The schools were notified of a suspect on the loose, but no public safety warning was issued.

-- On May 14, the Bellows Falls Police Department arrested Forrest Coleman, 18, of Walpole, N.H., and cited him for giving false information to police after he told officers a juvenile had stolen his vehicle and crashed it in Westminster. Coleman later told police he had allowed the juvenile to drive his vehicle. Coleman was ordered to appear in court on July 2.
-- On May 15, Ronald Ramos was arrested at a residence on Atkinson Street for violating the conditions of his release.
-- On May 16, the Bellows Falls Police Department received a complaint that a man was impeding traffic and yelling at highway workers.
-- On May 17, Kyle Spaulding, of Walpole, N.H., was arrested for driving while intoxicated after he was stopped by Bellows Falls police on Rockingham Street.
-- On May 12, Brattleboro police responded to Elliot Street for the report of a fight. As a result, Todd Maskell, 39, of Brattleboro, was arrested for disorderly conduct.
-- On May 16, Ronald Smith, 65, of Vernon, was arrested for operating a vehicle with a criminally suspended license.
-- On May 16, the Brattleboro Police Department responded to 125 Canal Street for a complaint of a man exposing himself in public. As a result, Leonard Viola, 46, of Brattleboro, was arrested for lewd and lascivious conduct.
-- On May 17, Douglas E. Grimes, 40, of Brattleboro, was cited for driving with a suspended license after he was stopped on Frost Street.
-- On May 17, the Vermont State Police and Brattleboro Fire and Rescue responded to a crash on I-91 at Exit 1. According to police, Donna Roy, 40, of Erving, Mass., was traveling north when she was forced off the road by a vehicle, possibly a late model blue Honda CRV with Massachusetts license plates. Roy lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a rock face, but was uninjured in the crash. Any witnesses to the crash are urged to contact Trooper James Matthews at 802-254-2382.
-- On May 17, Christopher N. Goris, 25, of New York City, was arrested for possession of marijuana after his vehicle was stopped on Green Street.
-- On May 18, Brattleboro police responded to 172 Elliot Street for the report of a citizen dispute. As a result, Peter D. Andrew, 42, of Brattleboro, was arrested for violation of his court-ordered conditions of release.
-- On May 18, the Vermont State Police stopped a vehicle on southbound I-91 for a motor vehicle infraction. As a result, Erik S. You, 23, of Weston, Conn., was arrested for possession of seven pounds of marijuana, 2.5 grams of cocaine and several thousand dollars, according to police. He was ordered to appear in court on June 28.
-- On may 15, Zedric Rivera, 23, of Holyoke, Mass., was arrested by the Vermont State Police on Interstate 91 for possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana. According to police, after Rivera was stopped they discovered eight ounces of cocaine in his vehicle and a burnt marijuana cigarette.
-- On May 18, the Vermont State Police and the Guilford Fire Department responded to the report of single-vehicle crash on I-91. According to police, Marilyn Besner, 55, of Princeton, N.J., was traveling north when she fell asleep. Her vehicle drifted off the road and hit the guardrail, which woke her up. Besner jerked the wheel, causing the vehicle to go out of control and spin on the highway, stopping in the median. No one was injured in the crash.
-- Sometime between 5 p.m. on May 17 and 10:30 a.m. on May 18, an orange Husqvarna lawn tractor was stolen from Green Power on Route 9. Anyone who might have information is urged to call Trooper Genevra Cushman at 802-254-2382.
-- On May 18, a Vermont State Trooper stopped a vehicle for speeding on Route 9. As a result, Jason M. Fay, 39, of North Bennington, was cited for giving false information to police, who also discovered he was wanted on a warrant. He was ordered to appear in court on July 23.
-- On May 18, Vermont State Police arrested Robert G. Harley, 46, of Bristol, Penn., for operating his motorcycle while under the influence of intoxicants. He was ordered to appear in court on June 4.
-- On May 16, a deputy from the Windham County Sheriff’s Department arrested Jeremy S. Morrill, 32, of Brookline, for driving with a suspended license. He was ordered to appear in court on May 28.
-- On May 18, Vermont State Police arrested Jesus Chavez, 32, of Klamath Falls, Oreg., after he crashed his motorcycle on Parker Hill Road. He was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol and ordered to appear in court on June 4.
-- On May 18, the Vermont State Police responded to a residence on Mill Street and arrested Juan Cardi, 21, no address given, who was found sleeping in the home after being barred by the court from entering that building. While he was being transported to the hospital, Cardi punched himself in the face several times causing injuries. He was ordered to appear in court on May 20.
-- On May 18, the Vermont State Police responded to Popple Dungeon Road for the report of an accident that damaged a barn on the side of the road. According to police, a vehicle struck a maintenance barn owned by Tater Hill and then left the scene. Anyone with information is urged to call 802-875-2112.
