BRATTLEBORO -- The Brattleboro Selectboard will consider four candidates to fill an open seat on the board when Ken Schneck formally resigns from the board on June 18.
Donna Macomber, Ian Kiehle, Michael Bosworth and Steve Cormier all submitted letters of interest to the board before the June 13 deadline.
The board will interview the four candidates at a special meeting at 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, and then vote on the appointment at a second meeting that night at 6:30 p.m.
Both meetings will be held in open session, Selectboard Chairman David Gartenstein said, and the public is encouraged to attend and participate in the meetings.
During the interview each candidate will be asked about the priorities and issues that led them to seek the position, and they will also be asked to talk about the issues they hope to address if the are named to the board. The candidates will also be expected to talk about any particular constituency they believe they represent.
In March Schneck informed the rest of the board that he would be leaving the area this summer, and under the board's rules of conduct the board can not look for a new member until the outgoing board member formally resigns.
However, the board voted to suspend those rules at its last meeting so the town could ask interested candidates to submit a letter, ensuring that a new board member can be named soon after Schneck steps down.
The candidate who is chosen will fill Schneck's seat until the next scheduled townwide election.
Kiehle and Bosworth both ran in the most recent Selectboard election.
Kiehle, who also ran for the board in 2008, came in third place, only 16 votes behind second place finisher David Schoales in a six-way race for a one-year seat on the board.
Macomber, in the same election, received 534 votes.
In her letter to the board, she said she has been following the issues and process of recent meetings.
Bosworth is an active member of the West Brattleboro Association and also serves on the Representative Town Meeting Finance Committee.
Cormier moved to Brattleboro in August 2012 and is station manager at WTSA Radio.
