BS&L helps provide legal services

BRATTLEBORO -- Brattleboro Savings & Loan Association’s participation in The Vermont Interest On Lawyers Trust amounts to $20,081 in 2012.

The program ensures that attorneys place certain client funds that cannot earn interest for the clients in interest-bearing accounts in Vermont financial institutions. Brattleboro Savings & Loan Association participates on the Vermont Bar Foundation’s IOLTA Honor Roll at the Gold level. As a Gold level leadership institution, Brattleboro Savings & Loan Association remits a net yield of 2 percent APR to the Vermont Bar Foundation on all funds deposited in IOLTAs. The Vermont Bar Foundation, in turn, grants the funds to organizations that provide free and reduced cost civic legal services to the poor.

In 2012, Brattleboro Savings & Loan Association’s commitment to the IOLTA Honor Roll translated into legal aid for poor and underrepresented residents throughout Vermont. Specifically, Brattleboro Savings & Loan Association generated $20,081 that was used by the following organizations in its service area: Windham County Pro Bono Project, Vermont Law School Legal Clinic, Have Justice Will Travel, Vermont Legal Aid and LawLine of Vermont.

As a result, thousands of Vermonters are receiving the legal assistance they deserve that would otherwise not be available to them.
