BRATTLEBORO -- The West Bee Nursery School is offering back to school haircuts at a discount during a benefit that will raise money for the school.

"This is a summer fundraiser, which we haven't done in the past," said West Bee Nursery School Board Vice President Alisha Wilcox.

On Aug. 26, three local stylists will be on site to provide haircuts at the "BEE cool for back to school" event. It will be held at the American Legion 32 Linden/Main Street building from 3 to 7 p.m.

The suggested donation is $10 per cut. Haircut options are quality basic cut, trim or clipper cut of choice at half the price that the featured stylists' regular businesses charge. There will be no shampoo, blow-dry, style or flat ironing services.

All the proceeds will go to benefit the West Bee Nursery School.

West Bee is a non-profit pre-school with a school board made up of the school's staff, local business owners, parents of West Bee students and parents of the school's past students.

A press release stated that West Bee Nursery School is "an accredited five stars program according to the Vermont Step Ahead Recognition System."

There are currently five slots open that are available at the school. The West Bee Nursery School Board wants to advertise these openings, which used to be retained for students in the head start program. Part of the proceeds will be used for that advertising.

The school offers two-, three- and five-day attendance options.

Children from ages 3 to 5 are invited to join.

Some of the activities offered to students include various field trips such as dance classes at the Brattleboro School of Dance, a program to learn about honeybees at the Bonnyvale Environmental Center and a trip to Stonewell Farm.

The school's staff also coordinates collaborations with Brattleboro Union High School each year, which gives high school students the opportunity to learn about early childhood education and development.
