BELLOWS FALLS -- Following an investigation, seven people were arrested and cited for a number of violations after a fight occurred on Atkinson Street on Aug. 6.
According to a press release from the Bellows Falls Police Department, officers responded to 103 Atkinson St. at approximately 9:45 p.m. after receiving a report of a fight in progress. According to reports received, one person had been struck on the head with a deadly weapon.
While attempting to investigate the assault, a number of people became very loud and disorderly. When officers attempted arrests, they were hindered by some of those people. In addition, a law enforcement officer was assaulted while attempting to perform his duties, noted the press release.
Arrested were Joyce Baker, Dylan Class, Derrick Buckley, Amber Dwinell (Lyon), Greg Turner, Glenn Turner and one juvenile.
A variety of citations were issued following the investigation, including aggravated assault, hindering arrest, resisting arrest, assault on a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct, false pretenses, child endangerment and negligent operation.
-- On Aug. 21, the Bellows Falls Police Department responded to a residence on Atkinson Street for the report of an assault. Following an investigation, Amber Nichols, of Bellows Falls, was arrested and cited for simple assault and unlawful trespass. The Vermont State Police assisted the BFPD in the arrest.
-- On Aug. 22, the Vermont State Police stopped a vehicle on Atkinson Street for displaying a voided inspection sticker. According to police, Heidi Monty, 32, of Bellows Falls, was arrested and cited for operating a vehicle with a suspended license. In addition, Monty was given tickets for using an inspection sticker not assigned to a vehicle and failure to have vehicle insurance. She was ordered to appear in court on Oct. 1.
-- On Aug. 22, the Bellows Falls Police Department responded to a residence on Westminster Street to the report of an assault. Following an investigation, Scott Lafaso, no address given, was arrested and cited for simple assault.
-- On Aug. 22, the Bellows Falls Police Department responded to the report of an altercation on Wells Street. Following an investigation, it was determined Virginia DeCampo drove her vehicle in a negligent manner and engaged in a fight. She was arrested and cited for disorderly conduct. In addition, Amber Nichols was arrested and cited for disorderly conduct.
-- On Aug. 22, the Bellows Falls Police Department responded to the Penguin Mart on Rockingham Street for the report of a theft of alcoholic beverages. A description was given to police and the subject was located a short time later in possession of stolen merchandise. As a result, Christopher Lanese, of Bellows Falls, was arrested and cited with retail theft, violation of conditions of release and unlawful trespass.
-- On March 5, the Brattleboro Police Department began an investigation into alleged child abuse. As a result, Melissa Pacheco, 29, of Brattleboro, was arrested on Aug. 22 and cited for simple assault and ordered to appear in court at a later date.
-- On Aug. 21, the Brattleboro Police Department arrested Kevin Collins, 50, of West Springfield, Mass., and cited him for operating a vehicle while criminally suspended. He was ordered to appear in court at a later date.
-- On Aug. 21, Jamel T. Thompson, 19, of Brattleboro was arrested for an outstanding arrest warrant stemming from a charge of disorderly conduct.
-- According to a press release from the Vermont State Police, three people have been arrested and charged in connection to a burglary that occurred at the Route 30 Circle K in the early morning hours of Aug. 23. During the initial investigation, a suspicious vehicle was stopped by the Brattleboro Police Department, which provided information leading to a residence in Dummerston. State Police received consent to search the premises and located items taken from the store.
As a result, Logan Turner-Renaud, 18, of Vernon, was cited for burglary and giving false information to a police officer and Michael M. LoCascio, 18, of Vernon, and Sharra Rossi, 18, of Brattleboro were cited for accessory aiding in the commission of a felony and giving false information to a police officer.
-- On Aug. 21, the Vermont State Police responded to Route 5 at Paul's Road for the report of a vehicle/bicycle accident. According to police, Austin B. Cain, 20, of Brattleboro, was traveling south on route 5 when he entered the travel lane to make a right turn into Paul's Road. When Cain entered the travel lane he collided with the rear of a passenger side of a vehicle being operated by Arthur H. Benedict, 77, of Dummerston. Cain was transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital where he was treated for bumps, bruises and road rash.
-- The Vermont State Police is investigating a burglary that happened at a residence on Weatherhead Hollow Road sometime between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 22. According to police, the resident of the home reported a jewelry box with a number of items was stolen. Anyone who might have information about the burglary is urged to call Trooper Jeff Hudon at 802-254-2382.
-- On Aug. 22, the Vermont State Police responded to Route 11 for the report of a single-vehicle accident. According to police, Brendan Anderson, 24, of Longmeadow, Mass., was traveling west when he attempted to reach for a bottle of water and left the roadway. His vehicle struck the guardrail, causing damage to both the guardrail and his vehicle. He was not injured in the accident.
-- The Windham County Sheriff's Department is investigating a report of vandalism to a house on Flagship Place that occurred on or about Aug. 21. Damage has been estimated at approximately $15,000. Anyone who might have information is urged to contact Deputy Ian Tuttle at 802-365-4942.
