GUILFORD -- A Palm Coast, Fla., man was transported to Bay State Medical Center in Springfield, Mass., for treatment of self-inflicted knife wounds following a motor vehicle crash on Route 5 at approximately 3 a.m. Wednesday.
According to a press release from the Vermont State Police, when troopers responded to the scene, they discovered that Timothy Kolendo, 47, had left the scene. They later determined that Kolendo had entered an apartment in a building on Route 5 armed with a knife and got into a physical confrontation with the resident.
Det. Sgt. Richard Holden noted that the victim, who received minor injuries to his hands, and Kolendo, did not know each other prior to the confrontation.
When law enforcement arrived on scene, members of Rescue Inc. and the Guilford Fire Department told them Kolendo had fled from the apartment and then tried to steal an emergency responder's personal vehicle. When he failed to do so, he then entered another apartment building located off of Guilford Center Road, wrote Holden.
When troopers entered the building, they made contact with Kolendo, who was covered in blood. Eventually, Kolendo was taken into custody and transported to the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital by Rescue Inc. before being transported to Baystate Medical Center.
Because Kolendo is being treated for his wounds, an arrest warrant was issued for him to answer to the charges of aggravated assault, unlawful trespass, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and unlawful mischief. He will appear in court at a later date.
