BRATTLEBORO -- One day after completing a three-day survey at the Brattleboro Retreat the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, or CMS, has found the psychiatric hospital in full compliance with Medicare conditions of participation.

CMS officials were doing an inspection at the hospital after a number of issues were reported earlier this year, putting in jeopardy the hospital's ability to receive some of its federal funding.

CMS officials, during an exit interview Wednesday, told Retreat officials that the survey had gone well and that the Retreat would most likely not lose its ability to access federal Medicare dollars for the treatment it offers its patients.

On Thursday the Retreat received official notification that it would be returned to "Deemed" status and that the Retreat's contract with CMS will continue.

"We wish to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our employees whose energy, focus, and spirit of innovation have allowed us to receive this positive result," Retreat Communications and Media Relations Manager Jeff Kelliher said in a press release. "We look forward to continuing to provide high quality care to meet the complex needs of our patients as they work to overcome serious psychiatric and addiction disorders."
