On Nov. 10, Brattleboro Police Department responded to America's Best Inn for a report of an assault and robbery. Upon arrival it was learned that the desk clerk was assaulted by an unknown male. The suspect jumped the counter and attacked the clerk. After the assault, the suspect took the cash register and ran from the hotel office on foot. BRATTLEBORO -- On Nov. 10, Brattleboro Police Department responded to America's Best Inn for a report of an assault and robbery. Upon arrival it was learned that the desk clerk was assaulted by an unknown male. The suspect jumped the counter and attacked the clerk. After the assault, the suspect took the cash register and ran from the hotel office on foot. The direction of travel for the suspect was unknown. The clerk sustained minor injuries during the assault.

The suspect is described as a light skinned, black male, approximately 5 foot 9 inches tall, 170 pounds and approximately 25 to 30 years of age with a muscular build. The suspect has a chin strap style beard and was wearing a brown leather vest with a black long sleeve shirt underneath. The suspect also wore a black knit watch style type cap.

A non-disclosed amount of cash was taken along with the cash register. Vermont State Police assisted at the scene. The investigation is ongoing and the police department request the public's assistance. Anyone with information is requested to contact the Brattleboro Police Department at 802-257-7950.

Athens

-- On Nov. 8, at approximately 9:15 a.m., the Vermont State Police responded to a report of a domestic assault on Valley Cemetery Road. Following an investigation, Vanessa Mack, 31, of Athens, was arrested for domestic assault. Mack allegedly hit a subject numerous times on the body and then on the shin with a broom handle. She was ordered to appear in court on Nov. 12.

Brattleboro

-- On Oct. 22, at 8:30 p.m., the Brattleboro Police Department was called to investigate an incident of retail theft that had occurred at Gouger's Market. Melanie M. Demary, 37, of Townshend, was arrested following an investigation that was initiated.

-- On Nov. 7, at approximately 3:25 p.m., the Vermont State Police conducted a traffic stop on a Ford Explorer speeding through a construction work zone on Interstate 91. According to a press release, Kelly A. Gobin, 40, of Newport, N.H., refused consent to search his person and a search warrant was requested and granted. As a result, a felony amount of heroin, along with a misdemeanor amount of a regulated drug, was located near his groin region. Gobin was cited and ordered to appear in court on Dec. 17.

-- On Nov. 7, Brattleboro Police Department responded to a residence on Valley Road for a report of a domestic dispute. After conducting an investigation, Donald A. Doutre, 47, of Brattleboro, was arrested and transported to the Brattleboro Police Department. He was held on $2,500 bail and will appear at the Vermont Superior Court to answer to the charge of second degree aggravated domestic assault.

-- On Nov. 7, Brattleboro Police Department located Cynthia McDonough, 53, of Newfane, on Town Crier Drive. She was taken into custody without incident for having an active warrant for her arrest, stemming from charges of false pretenses and petit larceny. Bail on this warrant was set at $1,000. McDonough was lodged at the Brattleboro Police Department for lack of bail.

-- On Nov. 8, Brattleboro Police Department responded to Landmark Hill Drive for a reported assault. Further investigation resulted in Chelsea B. Lawson, 21, of Brattleboro, being cited for domestic assault and disorderly conduct. Lawson will appear in court at a later date to answer to these offenses.

Jamaica

-- On Nov. 7, the Windham County Sheriff's Department arrested Melissa Phillips, 34, of Jamaica, for failure to appear in court for a sentencing hearing. She was ordered to appear in court at a later date.

Newfane

-- The Windham County Sheriff's Department is investigating a report of a bicycle that was unintentionally run over by a motorist on Oct. 13. Anybody with information is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at 802-365-4942.
