-- The Brattleboro Police Department is warning of a possible scam. According to a reporting individual, they were approached two times on Main Street by what has been described as "a fairly high pressure sales person" attempting to sign them up for a cell phone package from any of a number of cell service carriers. Area residents should be aware that if you do not initiate contact with a provider, signing up for a contract could be questionable at best, a scam or even illegal. If anyone has been approached in a similar manner, they are urged to call the police at 802-257-7950.
-- On Nov. 26, the Brattleboro Police Department responded to a residence on Marlboro Road for the report of a theft. As a result, Corey S. Russell, 27, of Brattleboro, was arrested and cited for simple assault and unlawful mischief. He was ordered to appear in court at a later date.
-- On Dec. 4, at approximately 7:15 p.m., the Vermont State Police conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 91 for speeding in a construction zone. As a result, Michael Piekielek, 24, of Keene, N.H., was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested, cited for DUI and consuming alcohol while driving and ordered to appear in court on Dec. 17.
-- On Dec. 5, at approximately 10:50 p.m., the Vermont State Police responded to Interstate 91 for the report of a single-vehicle accident. According to troopers, Jason S. Dennis, 26, of Brattleboro, was traveling south when he reached for a bottle of water and drifted onto the soft shoulder of a construction zone at mile marker 10. He began to lose control of the vehicle, leaving the travel lane and rolling over, coming to rest on its wheels in the grass on the west side of the highway. The car was totaled. A 1-year-old child, who was in a child carseat received a bump on the head. Dennis was cited for failing to maintain his lane and driving an unregistered vehicle.
-- On Dec. 6, the Brattleboro Police Department arrested James Caro, 29, of Brattleboro, on an outstanding arrest warrant stemming from a charge of sale of cocaine. He was ordered to appear in court at a later date.
-- On Dec. 6, the Brattleboro Police Department responded to Flat Street for the report of an intoxicated male. As a result, Christopher J. Lanese, 36, of Bellows Falls, was taken into custody and cited for violating his court-ordered conditions of release. He was ordered to appear in court at a later date.
-- On Dec. 4, at approximately 7:25 p.m., the Vermont State Police stopped a vehicle on Main Street for a motor vehicle violation. As a result, Draa Hobbs, 60, of Grafton, was arrested for DUI.
-- On Dec. 2, the Windham County Sheriff’s Department responded to Main Street for the report of a building being burglarized during the week of Nov. 22-29. Several antique items were stolen including a handmade mailbox with the "MAIL" in blue on the front and "Moreau & Coyle" on the top.
