WILMINGTON -- A 22-year-old Whitingham man was arrested at just past midnight on Dec. 22 after pointing what appeared to be a handgun at people in and around the Village Pub.

Wilmington Police Chief Joseph Szarejko said police found Christopher Littleton in a park near the intersection of Route 9 and Route 100 after they responded to a call for assistance.

"We were able to defuse the situation and take him into custody," said Szarejko.

The man, who was inebriated, was actually waving around a carbon dioxide pellet gun that was a reasonable facsimile of a 1911 Colt automatic, said the police chief. Officers confronted Littleton with their weapons drawn.

"Absolutely," said Szarejko. "Especially in a situation like that when somebody has a weapon of their own. Thankfully, nobody was hurt."

Though Littleton never entered the pub, said Szarejko, he was pointing the weapon at people inside the pub and at passersby. When ordered by police, Littleton dropped the weapon, he said.

"He was brought to the Wilmington Police Department where he was processed before being transferred to Southern State Correctional Facility," said the chief.

Littleton made bail and is expected in court on Dec. 31, to answer to charges of disorderly conduct and recklessly endangering another person.
