HALIFAX -- Jessica Bruno will not seek reappointment as secretary to the Selectboard. On Tuesday, the board will begin to address the job opening.
"We're looking for (a secretary) right now. We're going to do most of our appointments. If we don't have any candidates for that one in particular, she offered to help out in the interim if necessary," said Halifax Selectboard Chairwoman Edee Edwards. "We will be cognizant of her time and try to get her position filled as soon as we can."
The secretary to the Selectboard takes minutes during board meetings. It is a part-time position. Edwards told the Reformer that anyone who is interested can contact any of the board members or call the Town Offices at 802-368-7360.

The board will also begin to consider how it will approach filling an entirely new position.
At Town Meeting, instead of increasing the number of board members to five from three, voters approved adding an administrative assistant.
"We are very grateful people are allowing us to get more support," said Edwards. "It's my guess we will be trying to fill that as soon as position."
She believes the position will be important in re-balancing the board and having the additional support will lighten the work loads for all three of its members. Although it may take time to train the hired person, Edwards says the Selectboard should then be "able to focus on policy and less of the administrative."
"Because the monies were voted for the upcoming fiscal year, we will have to spend the next couple of months creating and revising a job description and posting it, then hopefully being able to interview someone and get them into position," she added.
The next fiscal year begins on July 1. In the meantime, board members will develop a job description for the position. According to Edwards, it is possible the board may seek counsel from the Vermont League of Cities and Towns. An employee of Readsboro has sent over a job description as an example. A description of a similar position that was formerly offered in Guilford was also given as a reference.
"We may be knocking on some doors asking others for models as they have them and comparing that against existing positions as we have to move from one area to another," said Edwards.
With the upcoming reorganization of the board and looking at other priority items, she did not want to make a prediction for when the position would be filled.
