BRATTLEBORO -- Route 30 under the Interstate 91 bridge will be closed through Friday, April 18, to allow for work on the bridge's overhead structure. While no project impacts are expected for Upper Dummerston Road, local traffic is likely to increase because that's the only way to avoid the closure other than taking backroads through Dummerston to the covered bridge over the West River or taking Interstate 91 north to Exit 6 and following the detour signs.

The shearing of the steel of the bridge that is being demolished will be noisy and will be limited to the hours of 6 a.m to 8 p.m. so as to minimize the noise impacts on nearby residents.

The West River Trail is closed at the Marina Trailhead and through access will not be permitted from the north. Truck activity on the West River Trail will be increasing heavily throughout the spring and summer. For everyone's safety, recreational users of the West River Trail should seek out alternative access points to the West River Trail or one of several other trails available to the community.

Signage at the Marina Trailhead and Rice Farm Road Trailhead will indicate current trail status. In addition, www.i91brattleborobridge.com will be kept up to date on the current status of the trail. The trail is open from the northern trailhead to a point just north of the bridge construction area. The northern trailhead access location is on Rice Farm Road, about a mile south of the Iron Bridge.

Northbound I-91 traffic has been relocated onto the southbound bridge. Traffic will remain reduced to one lane in each direction on I-91 until completion of the new bridge in the Fall of 2015. Weather permitting, night work will be conducted Sunday night, April 13, through Saturday night, April 19.

The speed limit on Route 30 near the work zone has been reduced to 40 mph. This reduction will remain in effect through the Spring of 2016. Project-related truck activity on Route 30 will continue. Route 30 will be reduced to a single lane intermittently both day and night, with flaggers regulating traffic within the work zone.
