BRATTLEBORO -- Upper Dummerston Road will be closed to through traffic from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily Wednesday, April 30, through Friday, May 2. The road will be reopened for the weekend, then will be closed again from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily Monday, May 5, through Wednesday, May 7. There will be no night work during the closure.
Upper Dummerston Road can be accessed via Route 30 at its southern and northern ends, and also via East Orchard Street and Meadowbrook Road from Western Avenue.
The speed limit on Route 30 near the work zone has been reduced to 40 mph. This reduction will remain in effect through the Spring of 2016. Project-related truck activity on Route 30 will continue. Route 30 will be reduced to a single lane intermittently both day and night, with flaggers regulating traffic within the work zone.
Northbound I-91 traffic has been relocated onto the southbound bridge. Traffic will remain reduced to one lane in each direction on I-91 until completion of the new bridge in the Fall of 2015. Weather permitting, night work will be conducted Sunday night, May 4, through Friday Night, May 9.
The West River Trail is closed at the Marina Trailhead and through access will not be permitted from the north. Truck activity on the West River Trail will be increasing heavily throughout the spring and summer. For safety reasons, recreational users of the West River Trail are should seek alternative access points to the West River Trail or one of several other trails available to the community.
The existing southbound bridge has been removed over the West River. No impacts to recreational boaters are anticipated for the week of May 4.
