Bellows Falls

-- On Aug. 27, at approximately 6:30 p.m., the Bellows Falls Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle on Westminster Street. Instead, the driver of the vehicle attempted to elude police by driving away at a high rate of speed through a series of streets in Bellows Falls. The driver of the vehicle, Sarah B. King, 35, of Bellows Falls, was eventually arrested after she went off the side of the road on Route 121. During her arrest, an infant was found in the vehicle and when King was taken to a holding cell at the police station, she attempted to escape through an opening in the room's ceiling. King was cited with attempting to elude, gross negligent operation, excessive speed, cruelty to a child and attempted escape. She was ordered to appear in court at a later date. The Vermont State Police assisted.

Brattleboro

-- On Aug. 20, the Windham County Sheriff's office took into custody Samantha Chiu, 23, of Bellows Falls, on an active arrested warrant for failure to appear in court for an arraignment. She later appeared in court.

-- On Aug. 27, the Brattleboro Police Department took into custody on an active arrest warrant Kyle J. Briggs, 30, of Brattleboro. The warrant was issued in relation to an investigation concerning embezzlement. He was ordered to appear in court at a later date.

Saxtons River

-- Following an investigation, the Vermont State Police cited Terry Ann Mills, 37, of Rockingham, with making a false statement to law enforcement.

On Aug. 13, Mills had called police to complain that her vehicle had been taken without permission by Jacob Thayer, 36, of Bellows Falls. According to a press release from the State Police, that was not true. The vehicle was recovered on Aug. 14. However, Thayer was cited with operating a vehicle with a suspended license. Both Mills and Thayer were ordered to appear in court on Oct. 14.

Vernon

-- On Aug. 26, at approximately 3 p.m., the Windham County Sheriff's Office stopped a vehicle for crossing over into a deputy's lane of travel. As a result, Sean E. Callaghan, 54, of Wendell, Mass., was arrested and cited with driving under the influence. He was ordered to appear in court on Sept. 16.

Westminster

-- On Aug. 27, at approximately 10:20 a.m., the Vermont State Police responded to Interstate 91 for the report of a single-vehicle crash. Troopers determined Joshua Howe, 26, of West Lebanon, N.H., was traveling south in a 2013 International box truck when the vehicle veered to the right. The truck struck the curb on a bridge and caused minor side damage. There was no damage to the bridge.
