BRATTLEBORO — The United Way of Windham County's Kids in Coats Fund, which will provide winter gear to Windham County families this year, will benefit from two events in February and invites the community to attend.
The Fund was created after the Reformer Christmas Stocking organization ceased operations in 2015 and will provide winter gear for children aged newborn through sixth grade. United Way of Windham County has set a fund-raising goal of $75,000 for the Fund and community members have already donated over $18,000 towards the goal. All donations directly support winter gear for kids; the number of children served will depend on the amount of funds raised.
The Elliot Street Fish, Chips & More restaurant in Brattleboro has chosen the Kids in Coats Fund as the beneficiary of the restaurant's monthly Feeding Friendzy event to be held on Wednesday, Feb. 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. and will donate 60 percent of the dinner proceeds to the Fund. United Way of Windham County staff and volunteers will be on hand at the restaurant to share information on the Fund and answer questions.
The Kids in Coats Fund will also benefit from the Brattleboro Sunrise Rotary's monthly Trivia Night on Monday, Feb. 8, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion on Linden Street in Brattleboro. Community members are encouraged and invited to create a team of four to six players; the $20 per person entry fee provides dinner by Entera Catering and 25 percent of the fees will be donated to Kids in Coats. There is a cash bar available, as well.
If you would like to make a direct donation to the Fund, visit www.unitedwaywindham.org for a donation form. Donors may also text "toasty" to 41444 or mail a check to: UWWC, PO Box 617, Brattleboro, VT 05302 with "coats" in the memo line.
