• At approximately 9:30 a.m., Brattleboro Police arrested Venus Aubert, 39, of Brattleboro, without incident on Church St., for having two active warrants for her arrest, stemming from a charge of larceny from a person and retail theft. Aubert was lodged at the Brattleboro Police Department for lack of $950.00 bail. Aubert will appear in the Windham Superior Court: Criminal Division at a later time to answer to these charges.
• At 8:11 a.m., Vermont State Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Cider Mill Hill, at the intersection of Vermont Route 9 in Brattleboro for a minor motor vehicle offense. Upon making contact with the operator, Justin Brown, 29, of Wilmington, Brown provided a false name and would not identify himself to State Police. During the stop, Brown became agitated and attempted to drive away as the Trooper was standing next to his vehicle. Brown subsequently stopped his vehicle and was taken into custody without incident. While being searched a marijuana pipe was located on Brown's person. This was in violation of Brown's current Conditions of Release for a previous arrest.
• At 8:54 a.m. the Vermont State Police, Westminster Fire Department, and Golden Cross Ambulance were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on US Route 5 in the area of Mr. G's in Westminster. Both operators denied any injury as a result of the crash. Investigation revealed that vehicle two, driven by Nancy Gorham-Lasante, 62, of Newark, Vt., was traveling south on Route 5 and was in the process of making a left turn into the Mr. G's parking lot. Vehicle one, driven by Thomas Hutchins, 31, of Westminster, was also traveling south on Route 5 from Bellows Falls. According to witnesses, Hutchins passed two other southbound vehicles in the area of The Compass School at a high rate of speed. Witnesses then reported seeing Hutchins drive into the rear of Gorham-Lasante's vehicle. The impact caused Gorham-Lasante's vehicle to rotate in a counterclockwise manner and come to rest on its wheels off the east side of Route 5 facing in a northwesterly direction. Following impact, Hutchins continued in a southeasterly direction, left the east side of Route 5 and struck a medium-sized tree coming to rest on its wheels facing in a southeasterly direction. Hutchins' vehicle sustained substantial front end damage as a result of colliding with the rear of Gorham-Lasante's vehicle and the tree; Gorham-Lasante's vehicle sustained substantial rear end damage as a result of being struck by Hutchins, whose vehicle was towed from the scene by J&M Auto. Westminster Fire Department personnel provided traffic control during the scene investigation. Hutchins was screened for DUI, and failed all sobriety tests but was not found to be under the influence of alcohol. Indicators suggested that Hutchins was under the influence of narcotics and he was taken into custody for further investigation. Hutchins was processed for DUI-Drugs, however he refused to submit to an evidentiary blood test. He was cited to appear in Windham Superior Court: Criminal Division on Feb. 16 to face the charges of DUI-Drugs-Refusal and Negligent Operation.
