UMF announces Dean's List for fall 2015 semester
FARMINGTON, MAINE >> The University of Maine at Farmington announces its Dean's List for the fall 2015 semester. Local students who were named to the Dean's List included Ross Momaney, of Brattleboro, and Brittney Torroni, of West Dover.
Vermont high schools compete for Treasury Cup
MONTPELIER >> On Friday, March 11, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the State Treasurer's Office is hosting the eighth statewide high school competition to select a Vermont Treasury Cup Challenge champion.
The purpose of the competition is to promote student interest in and knowledge of personal finance, economics and consumer affairs topics. Four-person student teams will compete against each other in a quiz-show style contest that tests individual and team knowledge. Prizes include $500 college savings accounts for each member of the winning team (six students for $3,000); $250 college savings accounts for each member of the 2nd place team (six students for $1,500); Champions win the right to display the large gold traveling cup for one year; and individual student trophies for students on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams.
Local students competing this year come from the Windham Regional Career Center.
Teams will be placed in bracketed competitions the morning of the championship. The tournament is a ten team, double elimination competition. Each match includes a personal finance round, economics round and lightning round. Connecticut College releases Dean's List for the 2015 fall semester
NEW LONDON, CONN. >> Local students named to the Dean's List for the 2015 Fall Semester included Maya Sutton-Smith, of Brattleboro, and Kalinda Roberts, of Dummerston.
Pre-K funding now available
BRATTLEBORO >> Children ages 3 to 5 living in the WSESU towns of Brattleboro, Dummerston, Guilford, Putney, and Vernon qualify for 10 hours per week of publicly funded prekindergarten education at 18 community-based preschools.
Pre-k education is designed to provide young children with play-based early learning experiences aligned with Vermont Early Learning Standards to gain social and academic skills that prepare them for school.
