• Brattleboro Police officers responded to Canal Street regarding an assault. Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Jessica L. Rose, 28, of Brattleboro, for simple assault. Rose will appear in court at a later date to face the charge.

March 31

• The Windham Countys Sheriff's Department is looking for the owner of a number of tools that were found in Putney. If you are missing any tools and think we may have them, call Sgt. Jess Fellows at the Sheriff's Office at 802-365-4942.

• At 11:15 p.m., the Vermont State Police responded to Tyler Hill Road in Guilford for the report of a single-vehicle crash. Troopers determined Cody A. Smith, 23 of Northfield, Mass., was traveling west on Tyler Hill Road when he failed to negotiate a corner and crashed head-on into a guard rail. Both Smith and his passenger, Jon Harvey, 26, of Guilford, were not wearing seat belts at the time. Smith was treated for serious head, neck and chest injuries at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital and then transferred to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass. Smith was processed for driving under the influence (results pending). His passenger was not injured.
