BELLOWS FALLS >> Happy Spring. The weather is heating up and our snowbird friends are returning from the south. This is a great time to come out and visit the senior center. The Bellows Falls Area Senior Center is free for all local seniors age 50 and over, there is never a membership fee.
Do you enjoy knitting or crochet? Then come check out our Knit & Stitch group, the ladies (Betty Rounds, Jane Nies, Jane Lawrence, Joanne Gay, Peggy Hadley, Fran Vaine, Ginny Ferguson, Liz Loura and Shirley Schofield) meet every Monday and Wednesday morning from 9 to 11 a.m. Start a project, finish a project or just pop in to say hello. They also accept special orders for baby sweaters, blankets, etc.
Our popular Bone Builders class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays, there is space available in our 9 a.m. class. Bone Builders is fantastic for strength building and range of motion.
Nickle Bingo is held every Tuesday starting at 12:30, we play 20 games with specials. Wednesday is Art Class and swimming at the Edgar May Recreation Center.
Do you have a spare hour to volunteer once a week? We are currently in need of a Meals on Wheels driver to deliver meals. Meal pick up is at 10:30 a.m. and the route takes approximately 40 minutes. We have route openings on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Our next out-of-town trip will be to see the Highway Men & The Queens of Country, an unforgettable tribute to the biggest names in Country Music this Century. June 23, at Venus De Milo in Swansea, Mass. $101 per person includes show, lunch, transportation, and driver gratuities. This is a power-packed show featuring the all-time greats of country music. Watch in amazement as each song, one hit after another is sung just as if you're seeing the original band perform. This incredible show is full of upbeat, honky-tonk hits. Meal Choice: baked chicken or baked scrod plus minestrone soup, vegetables, breads, dessert and beverage. Payment required by May 20.
Looking for an affordable lunch spot? The center offers lunch Monday through Friday starting at 11:30. Meals include roll and butter, entrée, vegetable, starch, dessert and beverage. No tax, no tip. The suggested donation for seniors over 60 is $3.50, those under 60 pay $5. Stop by the center for a menu.
We celebrate birthdays the second Tuesday of every month, and hold an ice cream social on the third Wednesday of every month immediately following lunch.
