May 1

• At 3:50 a.m., the Vermont State Police responded to a residence on Rockingham Street in Rockingham for the report of a disturbance. As a result, Jacob Snide, 20, of North Walpole, N.H. was arrested and cited with domestic assault.

May 3

• At 7:25 a.m., the Vermont State Police responded to a report of a theft of hay from a barn on West Windham Road in Windham. On May 2, sometime between 6 and 7 p.m., a pick-up truck stopped at the barn and took approximately 15 to 20 bales of hay. The truck was an older model Ford that was white or faded silver with a red stripe. It was described as being loud. Anyone with information is asked to contact Corporal Paul Dean at 802-875-2112.

• At 6:40 p.m., the Vermont State Police conducted a motor vehicle stop for speeding on Interstate 91 in Brattleboro. As a result, Shawn M. Gardner, 30, and Brandon Sheltra, 20, both of Newport, were found to be in possession of a substance suspected to be heroin. Both men were arrested. Gardner was cited with driving under the influence of drugs and possession, trafficking and importation of heroin. Sheltra was cited with possession, trafficking and importation of heroin.

May 4

• At 1:30 a.m., the Windham County Sheriff's Office conducted a motor vehicle stop on West Road in Vernon. As a result, Nancy Bacon, 66, of Westminster, Mass., was arrested and cited with DUI drugs.

• At 4:40 p.m., the Vermont State Police responded to Interstate 91 in Putney for the report of a single-vehicle crash. Troopers determined David J. Yendell, 67, of Rutland, was traveling north when he struck a deer crossing on the highway. Yendell did not sustain injuries but his vehicle received damage in excess of $3,000.

• At 11:45 p.m., the Brattleboro Police Department conducted a motor vehicle stop on Canal Street. As a result, Delmas Ortiz, 22, of Brattleboro, was arrested and cited with providing false information to a police officer.

• On April 15, the Brattleboro Police Department began an investigation into a report that Christopher Shafer, 33, of Brattleboro, had been observed trespassing inside a grocery store in Brattleboro. Shafer was later cited with unlawful trespass.

May 5

• At 6:55 a.m., the Vermont State Police responded to Route 30 in Dummerston for the report of a single-vehicle crash. Troopers determined Robert Woodworth, 67, of Brattleboro, was traveling south when a group of deer entered the roadway. Woodworth avoided colliding with five of the six deer in the group but was unable to avoid colliding with the last deer. Woodworth was able to drive his vehicle from the scene. There were no reported injuries. Vermont Fish and Game responded to the scene to assist. The deer perished in the crash.
