WESTMINSTER — Early Sunday night, around 7:35 p.m., the Vermont State Police responded to Milkway Road in Westminster for the report of a UTV accident.
Troopers determined Andrew Ielpi, 24, of Westminster, was operating a John Deere 825i Utility Terrain Vehicle north on Milkway Road at a high rate of speed over a large mound that covered a culvert in the road, which caused Ielpi to lose control of the UTV and travel off the road.
As the UTV traveled off the road, a passenger on the vehicle was ejected and struck a tree, which caused the passenger to lose consciousness. The passenger was transported to the Bellows Fall Police Department where the passenger was pronounced dead.
Iepli sustained a broken hand and was processed for driving under the influence.
The investigation is ongoing and the name of the deceased will be released once the family has been properly notified.
