BRATTLEBORO >> The Brattleboro Recreation and Parks Department will be offering one week Lacrosse Camps for girls and boys who are entering grades 1 through 9. The cost is $50 for Brattleboro residents and $65 for non-residents. Camp will take place at the West River Park on Route 30. No experience is necessary to participate in this fun camp. Groups will be made accordingly and skills will be taught.

The Girls Camp starts June 20, from 9 a.m. to noon, and will be run by Brattleboro Union High School coaching staff Alex Fellows. Bring your own stick and goggles if you have them; there will be limited ones for use if you do not have one. Bring a mouth guard, snack and a drink.

The Boys Camp will be held July 11 to 15 from 9 a.m. to noon. Bring any equipment you may have, a mouth guard, and a water bottle. Other equipment will be loaned out for the week as available. This program will be run by BUHS Coach Will Lapinski and high school players.

Afternoon Fun

The Brattleboro Recreation and Parks Department will sponsor a free summer program of "Afternoon Fun," for children 5 to 12 years of age and will be held on Monday through Thursday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Living Memorial Park beginning June 20 through 30.

Announcements of the day's activities will be made at the pool. Games will be played on the lower softball field. There will be no charge for this fun program. This program will be run by the Summer Recreation Staff.

Tennis Lessons

The Brattleboro Recreation and Parks Department will hody summer tennis lessons children 5 and up. Classes will take place at the Fred Harris Tennis Courts at Living Memorial Park. The sessions will run Monday, Wednesday and Friday from June 20 to July 1 and July 11 to 22.

Gideon May will instruct the program. Bring your own rackets. The cost of the lessons will be $55 for residents and $70 for non-residents. Registration is required and you may do so at the Recreation and Parks Office at 207 Main Street, Monday through Friday or you may reserve your spot by calling the office at 802-254-5808.

Swimming Lessons

The Brattleboro Recreation and Parks Department is hosting Swim Lesson Registration at Living Memorial Park Swimming Pool. Brattleboro residents may register on Saturday, June 18, of Thursday, June 23, from 10 a.m. to noon. Non-residents may register on Friday, June 24, from 10 a.m. to noon. Swim Lessons are primarily for Brattleboro residents and non-residents will be accepted if space is available.

Fees are $35.00 for Brattleboro residents and $50.00 for non-residents. The Red Cross has developed a new system for lessons, which is considerably different than lesson criteria in past years. Therefore, each child must be tested before being placed in a class and should be prepared to go in the pool at registration. If your child has a Red Cross Card from last summer, bring it to registration, which takes place rain or shine. To be eligible for Swim Lessons, children must be 3 by June 17.

There will be three sessions offered: June 27 to July 8; July 11 to 22; and July 25 to Aug. 25.

Gymnastics Camp

The Brattleboro Recreation and Parks Department will be sponsoring a Gymnastics Camp directed by Amanda Montgomery this summer for youngsters ages 5 to 16. The Camp will be held for eight, one-week sessions from 9 a.m. to noon. The fee is $85 for Brattleboro residents and $100 for non-residents. Weeks three and six will be prorated $68 for Brattleboro residents and $83 for non-residents. There will be a short break halfway through camp each day and children are asked to bring a nutritious snack and drinks.

Little Peoples

The Brattleboro Recreation and Parks Department will be offering a "Little Peoples" summer camp program for girls and boys ages 3 and 4. The program will be held Monday through Friday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Living Memorial Park in the Senior Area near the pool. The program runs for two separate weeks: June 20 to 24 and June 27 to July 1. Activities planned include sports and games, arts and crafts, music, story time, and snack time. The fee for Brattleboro residents is $25 and $40 for non-residents per week. Children are asked to bring a healthy snack and a drink.

Track and Field

The Brattleboro Recreation and Parks Department will sponsor a "Track and Field" program for youth, for ages 6 to 14, co-ed, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 7 p.m. The program will run from June 21 through July 21.

The Track and Field program will be held at the BUHS track area. The cost will be $20 for Brattleboro residents and $35 for non-residents.

Michael Lonardo will instruct the program. Participants will take part in events such as dashes, long jump, triple jump, running relays, and softball throw. Contests will be scheduled throughout the program. Participants can choose to participate in the VRPA Track and Field Meet on July 23, St. Johnsbury Track Meet.

Hoop It Up Basketball Camp

The Brattleboro Recreation and Parks Department is sponsoring the "Hoop It Up Basketball Camp" for children entering grades 1 through 8. The camp is scheduled for the week of June 27 through July 1 and is held at the Gibson Aiken Center, 207 Main St. The cost of the one-week camp is $90 for Brattleboro residents and $105 for non-residents.

For students in grades 1 through 4, the camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon and will focus on the development of motor skills giving each child the opportunity to practice specific skills in a structured and fun setting. It is for youngsters who want to have fun while improving their basketball skills.

For students in grades 5 to 8, the camp runs from 1 to 4 p.m. and will focus on the development of motor skills as well as provide opportunities to practice team skills in game situations. The camp is meant for boys and girls to improve their skills with ball handling, dribbling, passing, catching, and lay-ups.

"Hoop It Up" Basketball Camp is directed by Jay Cudworth and Todd Bell. Each participant receives a free T-shirt.
