• A motor vehicle at the trailhead/parking lot on West River Road and Williamsville Road in Dummerston was vandalized and several personal items were taken from the motor vehicle, including cash. A second vehicle had a broken window but no personal items were missing. Two suspicious trucks were seen earlier in the day in that location and were described to be an older model navy blue Chevy Silverado with a cab in the back and an older model white truck. On July 26, at 5 p.m., the Vermont State Police received a similar complaint of a motor vehicle that had been vandalized via a broken window. No property was taken and it is believed it occurred between midnight and 4:45 p.m. Anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper Diaz at the Westminster Barracks at 802-722-4670.
• The New Hampshire State Police is investigating a fatal collision between a motorcycle and a dump truck on Route 12 in Charlestown, N.H., at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. According to a press release, Glen L. Duchane, 61, of Springfield, Vt., was traveling north on his Harley Davidson when he attempted to pass a 2013 New Hampshire Department of Transportation International dump truck also traveling north, being operated by Christopher J. , Garland, 35, of Alstead, N.H.
According to the NHSP, for unknown reasons Duchane attempted to pass the dump truck while it was attempting to make a left hand turn into a gravel pull off, which caused the Harley Davidson Motorcycle to strike the turning dump truck.
As a result, Duchan suffered life-threatening injuries, which he died of later at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
Assisting on scene were members of the NH State Police Troop C Barracks, Charlestown Police Department, Charlestown Fire & Rescue/EMS Crews, N.H. DOT, Springfield Vermont Fire & Rescue and EMS Crews.
At this time the crash investigation is being handled by the State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Unit (C.A.R. Unit).
