GUILFORD — At just past 5 a.m. on Wednesday morning, the Vermont State Police received a report of an ATV accident on East Mountain Road.
Troopers learned from Alex L. Montgomery, 19, of Guilford, that he was traveling east at about 1 a.m. when he lost control of his ATV on a downslope with a sweeping right-hand curve. The ATV rolled over, throwing Montgomery to the ground. He tried to use his mobile phone to call for help, but it was not functioning.
Four hours later, a passerby spotted Montgomery and loaned him a mobile phone. In response, troopers, members of the Guilford Fire Department and Rescue Inc. responded to the scene.
Montgomery was first transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital by Rescue Inc. and was later transferred to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., for treatment of several cervical fractures.
While troopers were talking with Montgomery, it was determined he had been drinking. An Alco-Sensor test administered at 6:20 a.m. showed a .197 percent blood alcohol content.
Montgomery was cited with driving under the influence and issued diversion paperwork for being a minor who had consumed alcohol.
