WARDSBORO — The Vermont State Police has identified the victim of last night's shooting in Wardsboro as Kirby Staib, 42, of Wardsboro.
Kevin Parker, 57, also of Wardsboro, was taken into custody following the incident. He has been identified by the Vermont State Police as the shooter.
The Crime Scene Search Team is continuing to analyze the scene 682 Gilfeather Road. The victim has been brought to the office of the chief medical examiner for autopsy.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting, in this case, are still under investigation. At this time, no charges are being brought pending the conclusion of the investigation and further review by the Windham County State's Attorney.
At just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wardsboro Rescue and Rescue Inc. were advised to set up a staging area at the Wardsboro Fire Department while the Vermont State Police responded to a report of a gunshot victim lying in a driveway.
According to a press release from the State Police, upon arrival troopers found a 42-year-old male deceased outside a residence. Initial scanner reports indicated there was the possibility of an active shooter. Later, police reported on the scanner that a shooter had been taken into custody.
No other suspects being sought in this incident, and there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the public.
At the scene, troopers had blocked off Gilfeather Road at Route 100, which was shrouded in fog rolling off Warsboro Brook.
