MONTPELIER (AP) - Business and community leaders are due to gather with Gov. Peter Shumlin for an event to highlight barriers to Vermont women entering and advancing in the workforce.

The Task Force on Young Women and the Vermont Economy, which is hosting Tuesday's event at the Statehouse in Montpelier, was formed in April in response to a report pointing to difficulties that young women in Vermont face in finding a place in the workforce.

The report pointed to barriers including few allies and role models, limited exposure to career options, lack of personal finance skills and ongoing peer aggression.

Among the goals of the group is to get more women into science and technical careers.
