VERNON - A Vernon man has been cited for causing a June accident that killed a Readsboro woman.

Edward L. Class III, 20, was cited Wednesday with gross negligent operation with death resulting and operating a vehicle under the influence of intoxicating liquor with death resulting.

He is scheduled to appear for arraignment Dec. 10 in Windham Superior Court Criminal Division, police said this morning.

Investigators have said Class was driving a 2000 Nissan Maxima north on Route 142 on June 8 when he traveled into the southbound lane and struck a 2000 Jeep Cherokee driven by Andrew Bristol of Vernon.

The vehicles collided head-on near Vernon Union Church.

Bristol suffered minor injuries. Class and a passenger in the Maxima, 22-year-old Tanya May, were trapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated with the jaws of life, police have said.

Family members have said May died from her injuries on June 12 at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Mass.
