RICHMOND -- According to a press release from the Richmond Police Department, the body of a woman that was found pinned under debris in the Huntington Gorge was identified by a family member.

On June 29, at approximately 3:35 p.m., emergency responders were called to Huntington Gorge by people near the gorge who said they saw what they thought was a body in the water.

After seeing a news broadcast on Sunday night, the daughter of the woman found in the water called police and indicated that the description of the victim matched that of her mother.

The victim was identified as Connie. L. Fordham, 52, of Washington.

According to the press release, the investigation indicates that her death was a probably suicide and not an accidental drowning.

Since 1950 this was the 25th death at the Gorge and the first known suicide.
