Air Force delays impact statement on F-35s
MONTPELIER (AP) -- The Vermont National Guard says the United States Air Force has delayed the release of a final environmental impact statement on plans on where to base its next-generation fighter jet, the F-35, until the spring.
The Air Force says it needs to update the document to include 2010 census data for all six locations being considered.
The delay will push back a decision on where the F-35s will be based. The Air Force says it expects to start basing the F-35s at the first location in 2015.
2 rifles seized from CVU parking lot
HINESBURG (AP) -- Two rifles and ammunition have been seized from vehicles at the Champlain Valley Union High School in Hinesburg but the principal says the guns were used for hunting and he doesn’t believe the students intended to harm anyone.
The school policy prohibits having firearms on school grounds.
In a letter to parents, Principal Sean McMannon wrote that the incident was unsettling following the mass shooting at a Connecticut school but says he is pleased that people came forward with the tip and says he’s confident that the school’s procedures worked and there is no threat to the school community.
Wynton Marsalis to speak at UVM commencement

The 51-year-old father of a UVM student is the managing and artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City.
He is known as a bandleader, composer, educator but first won acclaim for his trumpet playing, winning Grammys for both jazz and classical music in the same year, 1983.
Target shooting puts 2 N.H. schools on alert
PELHAM, N.H. (AP) -- Police say two schools in Windham, N.H., were put on alert after hearing gunfire, the result of five men target shooting in the area.
Police arrested one of the men, 20-year-old David Peet of Windham. He’s been charged with carrying a concealed firearm without a permit.
Police responded Tuesday morning for the second time in a week for a report of gunfire near Windham Middle School and Golden Brook Elementary School.
Windham school business administrator Adam Steel said that gun owners may not be doing anything illegal, but are contributing to the level of concern.
