In Brattleboro...
BIKE DECORATING: The Brattleboro Recreation & Parks Department will hold its annual 4th of July bike decorating event on Wednesday, July 4. Children may bring their bikes and helmets to the Vermont Inn Pizza parking lot on Canal Street at 9 a.m. The Recreation Department staff will be on hand to help with decorating. Participants will ride their bikes in the parade, which begins at 10 a.m.
Decorations, tattoos and face painting will be provided for the participants. Children ages 5 and under must be accompanied by an adult in the parade. Parents of children over the age of 5 can meet the group at the Common at the end of the parade.

FIRECRACKER 4-MILER: The Bill Powers Memorial Firecracker 4-Miler is a 4-mile point-to-point race that begins at Living Memorial Park, travels through downtown Brattleboro and ends at the Common. Each mile is marked. There is one water station at Mile 2. Water and light refreshments are provided at the finish. Prizes for the male and female overall winners, and the winner of each age group (1-12, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-plus).
The cost, $10 for online preregistration, closes at 1 p.m. on July 3; $15 on race day.
Registration and start location is at Living Memorial Park, Brattleboro, at 8 a.m. and closes at 9:15 a.m.

DIGITAL DOWNLOADING: The Friends of Brooks Memorial Library have funded new eAudio access with One Click Digital Audiobook from Recorded Books. The program offers patron access to high-quality downloadable Recorded Books titles. All titles are iPod, iPad, iPhone compatible and available all of the time. Readers never have to place a hold on a title if it is out.
This program includes titles for adults, children and young adults and includes a variety of fiction and non-fiction titles. The Core List of 3,400 titles (2,500 adult titles; 900 for youth) will always be available. New content is added each month with 30 adult and seven youth titles.
To register, visit the Brooks Memorial Library website at www.brooks.lib.vt.us, click on the "Digital Media" button, click on One Click digital links. An account with a library card is necessary. Then download the One Click Media Manager. There is also an app for iPad, iPhone, or iPods.
In addition to One Click, the library also subscribes to Overdrive, its vendor for eAudio and eBooks, through the Green Mountain Library Consortium. Links are also available at the library’s website.

NEW MOMS: Programs of Brattleboro Memorial Hospital’s New Moms Network in July start with a session called "Summer Safety" on Wednesday, July 4. This will be presented by BMH perinatal specialist Dawn Kersula.
The program on Wednesday, July 11, is called "How a Baby Learns to Love" presented by Jennifer Bailes Hart, MA, LCMHC.
On Wednesday, July 18, new moms will have a day they call Potpourri. This is a time for new moms to come together and discuss various topics with each other and network.
On July 25, the session will be "Baby Proofing Your House and Lifestyle," presented by Brian Patno of Windham County Safe Kids.
This free BMH program is a chance for new moms (dads are also welcome) to network and learn tips from each other. Babies are warmly welcomed, of course, and need not to have been born at BMH to attend. New Moms Network is a free service of the BMH Birthing Center.
Moms meet on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the BMH Exercise Room on the lower level of the main hospital.

BAHA’I TALK: A public talk on the topic, "Why Baha’i," will be presented by Chuck George at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, at the Baha’i Center, 148 Elliot Street.
George taught social sciences in Chicago public schools for 25 years. Since his retirement, he has been traveling around the country sharing his knowledge of the Baha’i Faith. George has visited all 50 states at least once, visiting all but Hawaii and Delaware three times.
His talk is sponsored by the Brattleboro Baha’i Community and all are welcome. For more information call 802-254-2115.
In Guilford...
SENIOR LUNCH: The Guilford Senior Lunch, sponsored by Senior Solutions, will take place at noon on Friday, July 6, at the Guilford Community Church. The menu includes hot dogs, macaroni salad, and coleslaw with melons for dessert. A suggested donation of $3 for seniors and $4 for others is asked.
Books will be available on loan from the Guilford Free Library. Blood pressures will be taken courtesy of Guilford Cares.

In Saxtons River...
JULY 4TH CELEBRATION: With a theme of "Growing Together in Vermont," Saxtons River will kick off its annual Independence Day celebration Wednesday, July 4, with a 5K Firecracker road race, sponsored by Pleasant Valley Brew Pub, at 8:30 a.m., followed by a parade at 9:30 a.m.
There will be a street fair highlighted by water polo, a hula hoop contest and music on the bandstand. Miniature golf, an egg toss, a pie contest, and baseball games featuring a match between the Saxtons River Pirates and the Bellows Falls Legion.
Afternoon activities at the Saxtons River Recreation Area will include swimming, square dancing and old-time fiddling with Andy, Laurie and Friends, and music for dancing with the Shakin’ All Over band. Fireworks are planned at dusk. There will also be glow-sticks, popcorn and cotton candy on sale.
This year’s T-shirt was designed by fabric designer Kathy Traugott of Westminster, who has created a colorful image of a diverse group of young people in honor of the community that supports them as they mature. T-shirts will be on sale from 9 a.m. to noon the morning before the Fourth in front of the Village Market and at the parade.

SENIOR DINNER: A dinner for seniors in Townshend and surrounding communities will be held on Thursday, July 5, at the Townshend Church. The meal is sponsored by Senior Solutions. The suggested donation is $3 for those 60 and over, and $4 for those under 60 years. Take-outs are available. All are welcome.
In Wardsboro...
4TH OF JULY STREET FAIR AND PARADE: The 63rd Annual Fourth of July Street Fair and Parade will be held in Wardsboro on Wednesday, July 4. The event is an old-fashioned, fun day to celebrate the country’s independence with a street fair beginning at 9 a.m. and the parade of uniquely designed floats, marchers, old time cars and fire and rescue equipment starting at 10 a.m. The parade travels up and down Main Street past some of Vermont’s craftiest vendors, the library’s book sale, an art show at the Red Barn, hamburger booth, a white elephant table, quilt display in the Methodist Church, and famous homemade strawberry shortcake in the Methodist church vestry.
After the parade, a chicken barbecue with many sides will be served under the big tent. Entertainment will be offered by Ted Lawrence, a one-man circus. A pirate ship with pirates and many other activities are also planned.
At the Wardsboro’s History House there will be a display depicting sugaring in Vermont, then and now.
