BEAN SUPPER: There will be a baked bean and ham supper on Friday, Nov. 9, at the Bartonsville Grange Hall with servings starting at 5 p.m. The cost will be adults $9, children 6 to 12 $5, and under 6 free. All are welcome.

SKATEPARK FORUM: BASIC and Brattleboro Recreation & Parks will host a third public design workshop about the skatepark design with Mike Mclntyre, Skatepark Architect from Action Sport Design (ASD) now with Stantec, at the Gibson-Aiken Senior Center, 207 Main St., on Thursday Nov. 8, at 6 p.m.
This public forum presents local skaters an opportunity to provide input into the design process, provides time for the public to discuss esthetic concerns relating to skatepark design, and will serve as further input to Stantec from the public meetings held in September and October.

HOLIDAY BAZAAR: Austine School Museum Fund will be hosting a Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The bazaar will be held on the fourth floor of the Holton Hall building, located on the Austine campus, off Maple Street, in Brattleboro. There will be crafts, gifts, food and more.
LEAF PICK UP: The second and final day for Brattleboro curbside fall leaf pickup is scheduled for all residents on Friday, Nov. 9.
All leaves and clippings must be in brown paper leaf bags and at the curb by 7 a.m. on scheduled leaf collection days. Acceptable waste includes leaves, grass, clippings, garden waste, twigs, no branches larger than 1-inch diameter and 2-feet long. No other household trash is to be included.
No plastic bags or other containers will be accepted. Brown paper leaf bags are available for purchase at local businesses.
LEGO CHALLENGE: LEGO builders ages 6 and up are welcome to take the Dover Free Library Lego Challenge on Friday, Nov. 9, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Participants will be provided a limited number of LEGO building blocks and set time to build a creation to submit as a contest entry.

TOWN MEETING: A Special Town Meeting on authorizing the Newfane Selectboard to negotiate purchase of the property served by the Lynch Bridge will be held on Thursday, Nov. 8, at 6 p.m. at the NewBrook Fire Station on Route 30. This meeting was rescheduled from Oct. 30 due to Hurricane Sandy.
If the town purchases the property this would eliminate the need for the bridge, but the town would still be eligible for 90 percent of the FEMA money earmarked for the bridge. The difference between the purchase price and the FEMA funds is approximately $250,000. Proposed alternative uses for the money include improvements at the Williamsville Hall.
SENIOR MEAL: There will be dinner for seniors in Newfane and surrounding communities on Thursday, Nov. 8, at the Newfane Congregational Church. On the menu will be: Celery and olives, roast turkey and dressing, potatoes, turnips, and carrots, cranberry and pumpkin bread, and apple crisp and ice cream for dessert.
The meal, sponsored by Senior Solutions, is prepared by Winnie Dolan, hosted by Barbara Brooks and served by volunteers from the church and community.

KNIFE SHARPENING: Thyme to Cook will be holding its annual knife sharpening clinic, conducted by Wusthof Knives, on Friday, Nov. 9, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Those attending may have their first knife sharpened for free, and up to two more sharpened for $2 each. All knife sharpening proceeds will benefit Our Place Drop in Center in Bellows Falls. Do not bring serrated knives. Specials on knife-related products will be offered.

VETERANS HONORED: Gunnery Sargent Robert Brewster will be the featured speaker of a joint meeting of the Winchester Historical Society and Winchester Veterans of Foreign Wars post on Thursday, Nov. 8.
The two organizations will honor veterans and acknowledge Veterans Day. Brewster is the current Area Commander of the VFW. He lives in Troy, N.H., and is also Adjutant of both the Fitzwilliam/Troy VFW and the Fitzwilliam American Legion.
Originally from Pennsylvania, he joined the Marine Corps after graduating from high school and served 20 years before retiring. He will speak on Vietnam.
The meeting is open to the public. It will convene at 7 p.m. at the Winchester VFW on South Main Street.
