Blue Year’s Eve held
at Maple Valley
NEWFANE -- Blue Year’s Eve! will be held at Maple Valley Ski Lodge on Monday, Dec. 31, beginning at 6 p.m. Admission is $15, BYOB, and ID is required.
This is a theme party and the theme is "blue" -- wear as little blue or as much blue as you’d like, but please dress to impress.
Doors open at 6 p.m., and Atlatl starts the music at 7 p.m. Flabberghaster, Epidemiks and The Van Burens follow.

Turning Point hosts Sober Dance
BRATTLEBORO -- Turning Point of Windham County is hosting a Sober Dance at the Robert H. Gibson River Garden on Monday, Dec. 31, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
This family-friendly, alcohol-free event is for both those in recovery and those who choose a G-rated alternative to celebrate the New Year. This time of year tends to be jam-packed with parties, concerts, and other celebrations, but very often, alcohol is a part of the event. This dance offers another way to celebrate. Ralph Sherman and friends will provide the music, snacks will be provided, and everyone will be able to watch the countdown to New Year’s at midnight. A donation of $10 is suggested.

Metropolis welcomes Butterfly Swing
BRATTLEBORO -- The Butterfly Swing Band will help
The plays hot classic swing grooves from the ‘20s, ‘30s and ‘40s. Butterfly Swing Band features Joe LoMonaco percussion, Scott Sizer on trumpet, cornet and vocals, Mark Anagnostopulos guitar and vocals, Walter Slowinski clarinet, sax and vocals, and Lynn Lovell upright bass and vocals.

Arts Block hosts extravaganza
GREENFIELD, Mass. -- The Arts Block presents a New Year’s Eve Extravanganza, featuring many musical acts beginning at 8 p.m.
John Sheldon and Blue Streak host the show, which also features vocalists Samirah Evans & Moonlight Davis, saxophonist Joe Roderick, singer/songwriter Daniel Kasnitz and dancer Dakini Borealis.
Sheldon began working professionally at age 14, including a stint as Van Morrison’s lead guitarist at 17. He has written hundreds of songs, including "September Grass," which appeared on a platinum album of James Taylor’s. He has also composed for film and theater and conducted workshops in songwriting and composition. Evans, who moved to Vermont from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, performs a range of songs, from raunchy blues to smooth-as-silk jazz. She created and hosts the Arts Block’s "Ladies in Jazz" series and Sam’s Set & Shed in Brattleboro, Vt. She has shared stages with B.B. King, James Brown and Irma Thomas.
Davis has been singing gospel music all his life. He has opened for the Wynans, conducted gospel choirs and sung in churches all over the East Coast. He has shared the stage with Billy Preston and Evelyn Harris.
Kasnitz is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, audio engineer and recording studio owner. He is a regular on the southern Vermont music scene.
Roderick has worked in Sheldon’s band Blue Streak for many years. Borealis is an improvisational movement artist, who has performed with Mawwal, Planetoid, Tonny Vacca and Jim Matus, danced for local electronic music nights and spearheaded the return of "go-go" dancing to New York City in the 1990s.
