PUTNEY -- Sandglass Theater presents the New Visions Puppetry Series, featuring brand new works by emerging artists.
"Sens Équivoc" will kick off the series with performances of "La Causeuse (The Loveseat)" on Friday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m. This physical theater piece, performed by Olivia Faye Lathuillière, paints vividly a world of intrigue entirely without words. It captivates audience members with its darkly comic and poetic visual language and pulls them into the unfolding of a narrative reminiscent of David Lynch.
With nothing more than her body, a single puppet head, and a lonely love seat, Lathuillière evokes a world where anything seems possible. Immersed in her solitude, a woman delivers the audience through a stunning interior dialogue. As she revisits fragments from a sordid romance, wandering hands seduce and frolic.
New Visions presents innovative and adventurous new works from a younger generation of puppeteers. Sandglass Theater is excited to be providing a forum for these up and coming performers. Curated and co-presented by Jana Zeller, the New Visions series promises to leave audiences intrigued by the rawness of these freshly hatched eggs.
Olivia Faye Lathuillière is a French visual artist and choreographer, graduate from the Ecole Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Montpellier (France) and the School International LASSAAD Theatre in Brussels (Belgium) where she followed an intensive training in movement theater based on the pedagogy of Jacques Lecoq. With a dozen personal creations to her credit, she has presented and collaborated on projects in France, Italy, Albania, Bosnia, Belgium, Quebec and Ontario.
In "The Loveseat" she reveals and shares a theatrical language all her own, at the crossroads of dance, mime, physical theater and object theater.
Tickets are $16 general and $13 for students and seniors, payable by cash or check at the door. Reservations are encouraged, as seating is limited.
